A day in the life:

  • Manage the operations of traffic systems, including signs, traffic signals and pavement marking designs.
  • Coordinate field investigations, analyze information and prepare reports regarding traffic operations.
  • Provide traffic engineering recommendations to other ODOT personnel, local agencies and private citizens.
  • Conduct and review intersection traffic control studies, including traffic signal warrant analysis.
  • Determine traffic-related construction project design elements such as number of lanes, storage lengths and turning lane evaluation.
  • Evaluate the contract work performed by traffic engineering consultants on ODOT highway projects.
  • Develop, review and coordinate traffic signal timing throughout District 7.
  • Install and monitor complex interconnected signal system plans.
  • Analyze traffic timing as it affects intersection capacity and level of service. Determine future traffic access requirements and operational impacts of proposed developments.
  • Attend public meetings and respond to public concerns regarding traffic operations.
  • May occasionally require travel overnight. Will frequently be exposed to high speed traffic and adverse weather conditions.

What we need:

  • A valid Professional Engineer's (PE) license in civil, structural, or transportation-related engineering.
    • "Valid" means you have the ability to stamp. We will verify your license before we consider your application. If registered in another state, successful applicants will be required to obtain professional registration in the state of Oregon within six months of hire.
  • Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.
