Work Monday-Thursday, 6:30 am-5 pm. Pay starts at $28/hour with a CDL; $26/hour without. On-site training is provided as well as a competitive benefits package. Must live in the Belfield area to maintain shop.

The Road Worker will under limited supervision, operate heavy motorized vehicles and equipment to maintain and repair roads, right of way and bridges within the County.  Maintains Belfield Shop, ensuring all equipment and vehicles are in working order, as well as building maintenance/repair and snow removal as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operates all types of vehicles and equipment, including heavy motorized.
  • Provides direction to work crews in the absence of a Crew Leader or other supervisory staff.
  • Performs various maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment within the maintenance shop.
  • Plows snow; scrapes ice off roads.
  • Hauls various materials.
  • Cuts grass along roadway shoulders and assists with weed control.
  • Positions traffic control signs and devices; provides traffic control through work zones.
  • Performs maintenance on County roads sealing cracks, filling potholes, etc.
  • Performs building maintenance and repair projects using various hand and power tools.
  • Performs maintenance work at the Stark County Fairground.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of road construction, maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws governing road construction, maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of the road system and political boundaries of the County.
  • Ability to read, understand and apply regulations, codes, policies, procedures and other operational guidelines and directives.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, technical manuals and related sources.
  • Ability to prepare various reports.
  • Ability to assess and prioritize multiple projects and/or demands.
  • Ability to assess, analyze, identify and implement solutions to complex problems.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County staff, contractors and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to operate various road construction equipment.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and various software applications.
  • Must live in the Belfield area or ability to relocate.
  • Class A Commercial Driver's License

Desirable Training and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working at a County Shop or similar work environment.
  • Possession of a valid State of North Dakota class A commercial driver’s license.
  • Previous experience operating heavy motorized equipment.
