Technician Semi-Skilled Level I
Under general supervision, performs a variety of unskilled semi-skilled duties of considerable difficulty in the maintenance and repair of buildings, and equipment. Performs other work as required. This position is considered safety sensitive and/or requires access to the safety sensitive areas as required under FAA and DOT regulations.

Position Requirements & Qualifications:
- High school graduate or GED equivalent required.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Working skill in reading, writing, and basic mathematics.
- Considerable skill in the use of tools and equipment applicable to the area of assignment such as planners, power saws, levels, tension applications, files, picks, drills, spray guns, cutting equipment, grinders, rip saws, pipe threaders, routers, cement mixers, soldering irons, pipe drills, pipe crimping machines, flare tools glass cutters wrenches, hammers, and screwdrivers, etc.
- Possession of a valid Georgia Driver's License.
- Ability to meet and maintain Transportation Security Administration requirements authorizing unescorted access entry to Security Identification Display Area (SIDA).
Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of supervisors, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.
Work schedules, to include rotating shifts, hours of work and days off may be changed at any time at the discretion of the supervisor.
Regular and routine attendance at work is required.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Basic Requirements:
- Incumbent may be assigned duties under supervision in a specialized area or may perform duties relative to a number of skilled trades with supervision.
- Performs semi-skilled trades as carpentry, electrical, locksmithing, plumbing, sheet metal work, masonry, and painting, building and equipment maintenance repair.
- Performs helper or semiskilled duties under supervision to monitor and respond to baggage belt trouble calls due to bag jams and clean the bag belts as required.
Semi-skilled Carpentry
- Ability to perform under supervision and basic knowledge of: removing, constructing and repairing walls and floors; hanging sheet rock and installing paneling; forming and installing baseboards, doors, door frames, window sills, and suspended ceilings; constructing or repairing stairways, scaffolds, concrete forms; installing and repairing rafters; repairing and assembling cabinets and furniture; installing windows and glass doors; as well as sanding, staining, or varnishing wooden products; inspecting and repairing roofing under the supervision of a skilled Facilities Maintenance Technician.
Semi-skilled Masonry
- Ability to perform under supervision and basic knowledge of pouring and finishing concrete floors, driveways, sidewalks, and curbs; building or repairing walls and columns constructed of such materials as concrete or brick under the supervision of a skilled Facilities Maintenance Technician.
Semi-skilled Plumbing
- Ability to perform under supervision and basic knowledge of: assisting in installation of lavatories, water coolers, and pipes; cutting, threading, assembling, installing, and cleaning pipes and sewers; connecting valves and caulking joints; repacking and lubricating expansion joints; replacing pump seals and bearings; repairing and installing sewer, gas, air and water lines; replacing faulty fittings and underground pipe sections and using such equipment as flexible cables and force pumps to unclog obstructed drains and lines under supervision of a skilled Facilities Maintenance Technician.
Semi-skilled Painting
- Ability to perform under supervision and basic knowledge of: mixing paints to acquire proper color and thickness; sanding wood and walls; masking areas not to be painted; and applying paint, stain, varnish through such means as rollers, brushes and spray guns under supervision of a skilled Facilities Maintenance Technician. Sheet metal duties involve installing designed products such as metal door jams, heating ducts, gutters, downspouts, flashings, and vents.
Required:
Completion of assignments in compliance with city, state, and federal electrical codes in a timely and effective manner.
Under supervision, cutting and assembling metal pieces and installing sheet metal products through such means as soldering, riveting and bolting.
Traits & Distinguishing Characteristics:
- Ability to legibly and accurately record information on various report forms.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Considerable ability to determine types of materials required to perform assigned tasks and to accomplish assigned duties in a semi-skilled fashion requiring direct or minimal supervision.

- Ability to operate heavy equipment.

- Assist and carry or transport injured personnel in a disaster situation.
- Ability to drive an electrical service vehicle.
- Ability to operate a two-way radio.
- Ability to work from an aerial bucket or ladder truck up to heights of 60 feet as required.
- Physical ability to perform the required activities and to handle the required materials and equipment.
- Ability to lift 50-100 pounds and to possibly assist, carry, and/or transport injured personnel in a disaster situation.
- A hearing ability to detect noises, sirens, and emergency or other radio transmissions is necessary along with vision ability of 20/20 with corrected lens.
