Position: Heavy Equipment Mechanic   (2 years’ experience required)

Pay:  $27.00 to $30.00

Department:  Maintenance 

 

Description:  Primary responsibility is to diagnose heavy equipment repair needs and perform designated repairs on company owned machines as directed.



Essential Function(s):

  1. Primary responsibility is to diagnose heavy equipment repair needs and perform designated repairs on company owned machines as directed.
  2. Repairs are to be made on, but not limited to, skid steers, wheel loaders, material handlers, man lifts, locomotives, trucks, etc.
  3. Perform mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic machines.
  4. Performs and assists in all trans loading and operations maintenance activities.
  5. Communicates with others to determine appropriate priorities.
  6. Sets and effective pace and minimizes the interruptions in the operations.
  7. Participates in safety programs and safety training and demonstrates total commitment and compliance with all Company Safety policies, OSHA and Health rules.
  8. Uses time effectively to troubleshooting and problem solving.
  9. Performs necessary service, preventative maintenance, repairs, replacements, installations, or re-building of parts to restore the equipment to proper operation.

Requirements:

 

  1. High School Diploma or GED required. Technical, vocational, trade school education or equivalent is also required. (Equivalent work or military experience will be considered in lieu of educational requirements)
  2. Must have a valid Driver’s License.
  3. Minimum of 3 years’ experience troubleshooting and repairing heavy diesel equipment.
  4. Must demonstrate good problem-solving skills, mechanical aptitude, excellent communication skills – both oral and written, good work habits, the ability to read and interpret machine schematics, self-motivation and a desire to perform at one’s highest level.
  5. Must provide proper tools to perform equipment repairs.
  6. Must be able to multitask.
  7. Must be able to climb heights and work in confined spaces.
  8. Reliable and verifiable attendance
  9. Successfully complete all required certification and training.
  10. MUST be able to successfully complete pre-employment physical, drug testing and criminal background check.

 

Minimum Qualifications: The candidate must be personable and professional in appearance and attitude. Strong written and verbal communication skills are a plus in this position. Mechanical aptitude is a plus for this position.

 

Reporting relationships:  This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor daily and ultimately the Director of Operations for Oakley St. Louis, LLC.

 

Working Conditions: The job is physically demanding and requires the ability to work out of doors under all weather conditions. The typical work week is a standard 40 hours with overtime during the fertilizer seasons. The worker will be required to wear a hard hat, safety-toe footwear, Hi-Viz clothing, and safety glasses. OSHA and company policy-required PPE must be worn for specific tasks, including life jackets, respirators, safety harness, and hearing protection.
