Borough Building Inspector

This is a specialized technical position with Millbourne Borough. The Inspector is responsible for the issuance of building permits, inspection of the construction, and issuance of certificates of occupancy. The inspector works with considerable freedom of action in the technical aspects of the job. The inspector reports to the Borough Council.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Building Inspector shall: • receive applications required by this code, issue permits and furnish the prescribed certificates. shall examine premises for which permits, both building and zoning permits, have been issued, and shall make necessary inspections to see that provisions of all laws and ordinances are complied with and that construction is prosecuted safely. • enforce all provisions of the Building Code, the Zoning Ordinances and other applicable ordinances and laws. • when requested by proper authority or when the public interest so requires, make investigations in connection with matters referred to in the Building Code and render written reports on the same. • enforce compliance with the law, remove illegal or unsafe conditions, secure the necessary safeguards during construction and/or require adequate exit facilities in buildings or structures, and issue such notices or orders as may be necessary. • conduct inspections required under the provisions of the Building Code. • maintain comprehensive records of applications, of permits issued, of certificates issued, of inspections made, of reports rendered, and of notices of orders issued. • make written reports to the Borough Council once each month, or oftener if requested, including statements of permits and certificates issued, and orders promulgated. • perform any other reasonable duties which the Borough Council may deem necessary. • in the discharge of their official duties, and upon proper identification, shall have authority to enter any building, structure, or premises at any reasonable hour

JOB REQUIREMENTS: • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, completed the International Code Council of Com. Of PA uniform construction PAUCC Basic Inspection Course, and have at least 2 years’ experience as a building inspector; or, have been a builder or construction superintendent with at least 10 years’ experience in the building industry at progressively more responsible positions. • Must be a UCC Certified Residential and Commercial Inspector and Plan Reviewer. • Must be able to walk, hear, see, speak, move 25 pounds, from one location to another, with or without the assistance of reasonable accommodations, • Must be able to climb up and down ladders and stairs. • Must be able to withstand exposure to dirt, dust, mud, noise, heat, and cold. • Must be able to reason, solve problems and communicate with Borough personnel, residents, contractors, builders, engineers, lawyers, etc. in both written and oral form. • Must be able to use basic office equipment, have a basic skill level with computers and be able to read and understand architectural and engineering plans.
