Position Summary
The Wastewater Operator I's typical duties include: assisting with the daily operations of the City wastewater treatment plant and collections systems: performing checks, maintenance, preventative maintenance, and housekeeping of the plant; assisting with system inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on all treatment plant and sludge removal equipment; operating vehicles and heavy equipment, including front end loader, skid loader, load-all, crane truck, jet truck, forklift, floater truck, and dump truck; assisting with bio-solids removal program and operation of bio-solids removal equipment.
Job Requirements
- Valid Class B CDL with airbrakes and tanker endorsement within 120 days of employment required. A valid drivers license is required upon hire.
- Certification Wastewater DNR Operator Class D within 120 days of employment required.
- High school diploma or equivalent desired.
- Prior experience working with wastewater treatment or collection systems desired.
- Prior heavy equipment operating experience desired.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of the functions of the wastewater collections systems, related state and federal regulations, lift station equipment, and sewer line maintenance and repairs.
- Proficiency in use of basic business software (word processing, spreadsheets, email, presentations) and basic office equipment.
- Attention to detail and the ability to maintain concentrated focus.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers.
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential job duty.
