Light Equipment Operator/Plant Operator I - City of Craig
Light Equipment Operator. City of Craig. Parks/Recreation Department. $19.24/hour-$27.65/hour. Full time with excellent benefits.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintains and repairs park equipment, power equipment, pumps, irrigation systems, etc. Maintains grounds using tractor, power, manual mowers and hand tools; assists with aquatics maintenance as necessary. Performs custodial within parks. Provide turf and horticulture maintenance in parks and at city facilities. Remove snow and assist with special events. Inspect community parks to ensure safe conditions, reports vandalism and repair damages. Assist Park Foreman with training and supervising seasonal employees on safe and proper work procedures. Operates small equipment including tractors, forklifts, snow removal equipment, mowers, field/marking unit, etc.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills:
Light mechanical; positive public relations; general turf/landscape maintenance, mechanical maintenance; irrigation installations, repairs, and maintenance; safety; various construction skills and abilities; good written and verbal communication.
Mental Demands:
Occasional repetitive tasks, able to follow explicit instructions, basic problem solving and moderate independent decision-making.
Experience:
Turf maintenance, horticulture, arborist, irrigation, aquatics, and construction. Preferred, but not required.
Education/Training:
High school diploma, GED, vocational training or certifications in turf/landscape maintenance;
supplemented by work experience in municipal/landscape.
Working Conditions:
Frequent exposure to inclement weather; operation of equipment in uncomfortable conditions; dirt, noise. Paint/solvent fumes, possible exposure to unclean water and wastewater during repair of toilets or drains; height while working on scaffolding. Frequently works near pool chemicals.
Physical Demands:
Standing; reaching; manual dexterity; pushing; lifting; carrying; operation of grounds maintenance equipment; moderate to heavy physical exertion at times.

Special Requirements:
Must have current Colorado Commercial Driver License Class B. Current Red Cross First Aid and CPR certifications or willing to obtain within the first year. Must be able to pass a preemployment drug screen, motor vehicle record and background check. Subject to random drug testing. Must be available for on call rotation. Some night and weekend work may be required.
