TRAFFIC SAFETY MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR

The Marin County Human Resources Department and the Marin County Department of Public Works are announcing a recruitment for the position of Traffic Safety Maintenance Supervisor – Roads Division. There is one full-time vacancy in the Roads Division. The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill any future vacancies for open, fixed-term, full-time or part-time positions that may occur in this classification while the list remains active. Eligible lists remain active for a minimum of six months.

The Traffic Safety Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for organizing, supervising and planning the activities of the Sign Shop which is located in the Nicasio Yard. Adherence to State and Federal traffic standards is required. Duties include planning, installation and maintenance of traffic signs, fabrication of traffic signs, planning, installation and maintenance of pavement markings, and executing work orders from various other County Division and Departments involving signage and pavement markings. He or she will also assist Superintendent of Road Maintenance regarding improvements and modifications needed in operations, priorities, staffing and personnel actions.

The ideal candidate is a self-starting, independent individual capable of working in a team-oriented environment. The successful candidate will possess knowledge of principles, practices and terminology of a variety of traffic safety-related activities as well as be up to date with regards to compliance with current Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices codes. The ideal candidate has considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials used in the design, installation, maintenance and repairs of traffic signs and pavement markings. The ideal candidate is customer-focused and has strong interpersonal skills in working with staff, other county departments, engineers, design professionals, contractors, other agencies and the public.

Candidates must be willing to work in outside weather conditions, work near moving mechanical parts, and work in confined spaces and with hazardous materials. Candidates may also be required to work nights, weekends and holidays, overtime and on-call.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Experience equivalent to four years in road or sign maintenance, construction, or other related work including some experience in a lead capacity and possession of the following knowledge and abilities as listed in the class specification.

LICENSE: This job class requires travel between various County and business-related locations. Employees who drive on County business to carry out job-related duties must possess a valid California driver’s license for the class of vehicle driven and meet automobile insurability requirements of the County, including review of a recent DMV history. Possession of a valid Class C California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving history as obtained from the Department of Motor Vehicles.
